A Whimsical Weekend Shawl

It’s your weekend to relax, knit with friends, take a break from the kids, and have fun creating A Whimsical Weekend Shawl. This shawl is a blast to knit, and it shows off that skein or two of variegated yarn so nicely with a large section of stockinette stitch. The pattern is written to use one skein of fingering weight yarn, but it’s easily modified to use up as much yarn as you have. It’s knit flat and has very simple cabled edges. (Even if you’ve never knit cables before, you can do this!) Cast on only 25 stitches, work the cabled edges with stockinette in between, increasing gradually until you’ve used up half your yarn. Then decrease until you have only 25 stitches left to bind off.

I really enjoyed working with the sparkly Fairy Cat Glitter Paw yarn from Whimsical Wood Yarn Co. Her yarn is beautiful, and her colorway names are hilarious. Later this week, I’m giving away one skein of Fairy Cat Glitter Paw on Instagram, so if you’d like to enter, follow me there, and stay tuned for the giveaway post.

Superfan Scarf3cr

You’re the most loyal fan in the world! You cheer for those 4 year olds no matter how cold it gets or how bad they are at kicking the ball into the goal. Whether you’re cheering for your kid’s soccer team, your alma mater, or the Super Bowl champions, do it in the Superfan Scarf.

The Superfan Scarf looks complicated, but it’s not. It’s knit flat, entirely in garter stitch with a simple little twist every few inches. The twist adds an eye-catching, three-dimensional effect sure to wow the other fans. If you can knit and join another ball of yarn, you can make this scarf. No purling, increasing, or decreasing required.

3rd Grade Crayfish Socks – A New Pattern from Meanest Mommy Knits

3GCS4

The good news… when my son was in 3rd grade, his class did a super fun & educational science unit on crayfish. The bad news… my son was one of the “lucky winners” who got to take a crayfish home at the end of the unit, and it lived FOREVER. This pattern (with its cable stitch on the leg that looks like a crayfish claw) is written in memory of the 3rd grade crayfish. May he rest in peace.

3rd Grade Crayfish Socks are worked top down and have a fun little cable on the leg that continues down the sides of the foot. The pattern comes in 5 sizes, so they’ll fit anyone from a 3rd grader up to an adult with big feet. Both written directions and charts are provided. The pattern is easy to memorize, making this a great project to knit on the go.

Play Nice Socks – A New Pattern from Meanest Mommy Knits

This sock pattern won’t make your children play nice, but it will do wonders with your variegated sock yarn. Slipped stitches and a very simple cable pattern help show off that skein of colorful variegated sock yarn you just didn’t know what to do with.

Play Nice Socks are worked top down, and just to keep it interesting, the right and left sock mirror each other. The pattern is easy to memorize, making this a great project to knit on the go (or when you’re exhausted from your kids fighting all day). Both written directions and charts are provided.
